Canelo Alvarez Loses Bout To Dmitry Bivol In Masterful Showcase (Highlights)

Canelo lost out for the second time in his professional career to Dmitry Bivol

Bivol kicked things off to a strong start with a skilful use of the jab to outscore Canelo in the opening round.

The second round saw Bivol land multiple three and four punch combinations to frustrate Canelo, who responded with a strong right hand and a left hook to the body.

Bivol is quickly establishing himself as the cleaner puncher in this fight. He’s enjoying a lot of success at range with the jab. Canelo does well on the inside but fails to keep the same consistency.

The initial minutes saw Canelo struggle to gain the edge. He was loading up on his shots in order to hit heavy but found frustration in the start.

In the fourth round, Canelo’s pressing hard but not landing clean on Bivol who continues to block his shots. Canelo connected with a massive uppercut towards the end of the round.

As big of a favorite as Canelo was going into the match, it iss no walk in the park for the Mexican to face Dmitry Bivol.

Canelo controlled the center as Bivol traded shots circling around the ring. Bivol had him pinned on the ropes and unleashed a series of punches toward Alvarez who did dodge many. Bivol finds success with a big jab with a straight left in the fifth round.

Canelo kept trying to land the right hand by pressuring Bivol to shift on the back foot. Halfway through the fight, it seemed like a competitive affair with Bivol matching Alvarez’s pace.

Canelo starts to come forward again in the seventh with a sense of frustration in his movement. Bivol blocks strikes from Canelo and then went on to answer back with a few shots of his own. Both men aim to find the openings but seem to struggle. Bivol looking much better as he narrowly missed Canelo with a flurry of punches towards the end of the round.

Bivol bullied Canelo in the eighth round as he landed double-digit punches in each round of the contest whereas Canelo did not. A masterful display of fighting by Bivol.

Canelo comes out jumping in the ninth round. The frustration on Canelo’s face is clear.

Lines switched to make Bivol the favorite right before the opening of round ten. Canelo looks to get past the guard of Bivol to cause some serious damage. Bivol has landed almost twice as many overall punches as Canelo halfway through the tenth round. Bivol seems to toy with Canelo against the ropes as he snaps Canelo’s jaw with a right hand. Canelo does a good job at slipping punches but with no offensive significance. He’s believed to be behind on the scorecards at the end of round ten and needs to score a knockout or multiple knockdowns to turn the tides in his favor.

With just two rounds left in the bout, Canelo entered round eleven seemingly low on the gas tank as he breathed heavily with his mouth open. Canelo is the more active fighter with constant pressure.

Result: Dmitry Bivol defeated Canelo Alvarez via unanimous decision.
