Lara Shares Message About Amazon Fires
Amidst wildfires burning in the Amazon rainforest, Bellator flyweight fighter Alejandra Lara made her stance against deforestation clear during the Bellator 225 weigh-ins. As a devoted environmentalist, Lara chose to use her platform to spread awareness about the fires that are destroying the Amazon.
Lara walked confidently towards the stage at the Sheraton Hotel in Stamford, Connecticut. She removed her black training warm-up suit which exposed numerous messages expressing her stance on the Amazon rainforest.

Quotes displayed on Lara’s body included: “Our lungs are on fire”, “Stop deforestation”, and “Respect Nature.” Lara also rocked traditional Amazonia warpaint on her face as she posed flexing her biceps. The photos went viral all across the internet, including her Instagram.
During her media day interviews, she wore a flower behind her ear to signify raising awareness for planet Earth. As a proud Colombian, Lara feels a deep personal connection to the Amazon. Mainly due to a portion of the Amazon rainforest living in Colombia.
Origins of the ongoing fires in the Amazon are still in question. While some news outlets report that the fires could be natural, others believe the fires were created intentionally by humans. The purpose of the intentional fires would be for commercial use, to benefit the area financially causing deforestation.
Lara Also Earned a TKO Victory
While the weigh-in photo went viral across the internet, Lara still had a job to manage inside of the cage. She made easy work of her opponent Taylor Turner, TKOing her via punches in the first round. An impressive thought to highlight was that Alejandra won in such impressive fashion in the bantamweight category, one class up from her normal flyweight division.

Making A Statement In Multiple Ways
It’s safe to say that Alejandra Lara had a very successful weekend. The statement made at weigh-ins linked with the statement delivered in the cage makes it difficult to decide which was more powerful. If Alejandra can continue to win while increasing awareness for her stance against deforestation, she could easily become the most powerful voice for the #SOSAmazonia movement.
