Nate Diaz will finally get his wish to fight again.
UFC 279
After a year of inactivity, Stockton’s UFC superstar has booked a return to the Octagon. Diaz has verbally agreed to fight Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 279 on September 10th, according to ESPN. This is no ordinary fight though. The bout is scheduled for a 5-round main event and will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Lead-Up
This will be Diaz’s last fight of his current UFC contract. Diaz has been very vocal about his rocky relationship with the UFC. The Stockton-native recently said the promotion was ‘holding him hostage’ as he has had troubles booking a fight.
It looks like his problems finding a scrap are now over with Chimaev on the horizon.
Ahead of the headliner, Diaz is coming off a two-fight skid to Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal. His last win would come against Anthony Pettis in 2019.
Chimaev enters the biggest fight of his career at UFC 279 as it’s his first time under the main event spotlight. He finally gets his wish to take on Diaz, an opponent he’s been campaigning for a while now.
The undefeated welterweight contender has maintained a perfect record inside the Octagon. ‘Borz’ most recently beat former title challenger Gilbert Burns to improve to 11-0, getting his fifth UFC win.
