While preparing to ride Dana White’s prized bull ‘Twisted Steel,’ UFC Hall of Famer Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone tore his bicep clean off the bone.
Cerrone was set to feature at the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) “Unleash The Beast” event on Saturday, May 18, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Riding a practice bull earlier this week, Cerrone suffered the grueling injury, forcing him to bow out of the event.
“As y’all know I was set to ride Dana White’s ‘Twisted Steel’ at the PBR World Finals on May 18,” Cerrone wrote on Instagram. “I was just rushed into surgery with 100-percent biceps tear off the bone! Guess you mess with the bull you sometimes get the horns. This is not the end. I will rehab and get back after it.”
“Well if y’all want to see what happened to the one arm man, this is it,” Cerrone added in a follow-up post. Now if you’re thinkin this is it, and ol’ cowboy is down and out— no sir. @danawhite hooked me up with one of the best surgeons for a full bicep tear and give it six-eight weeks and with help from @transcendHrt and I’ll be back at it. Ain’t going out like this!!”
Dana White Issues a Statement Regarding ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone’s Bull-Riding Injury
Following the incident, the UFC CEO issued a statement to MMA Mania insisting that the whole thing was a bad idea from the beginning.
“I thought this was a bad idea for Cowboy from the start,” White said. “Twisted Steel is the nastiest bull in the PBR. He’s bucked 90 percent of his riders. Let’s leave it to the pros at the PBR World Finals in Arlington.”
Three months ago, Dana White was singing a very different tune when Cerrone laid down the challenge to ride his “legit badass” of a bull.
“Cowboy Cerrone called [Twisted Steel] out saying that he wants to ride my bull,” White previously said in a video on X. “Now, my bull is a legit badass. The last PBR guy that rode him, professional bull rider, lasted 2.5 seconds. So Cowboy Cerrone, I accept your challenge. I will donate $50,000 to the charity of your choice for you to ride him. If you last eight seconds, I will give you $100,000.”

Looks like Dana White saved himself a few bucks to throw away at the blackjack table.
