Anthony Pettis is fresh off his boxing debut win over Roy Jones Jr. at Gamebred Boxing 4.

Anthony Pettis has had a storybook career so far in combat sports. He made a splash in MMA back in the early 2010s when he showcased his flashy striking moves in the WEC. When he came to the UFC back in 2011, he didn’t stop until he was at the top. He won the UFC belt in 2013 and rocketed to stardom. At the time he was one of the most famous fighters on the planet. He was the first UFC fighter to be featured on a Wheaties box and his “Showtime kick” was seen everywhere. Now Pettis is removed from that UFC title and the UFC as a whole. He is not out of the MMA game at all but is following a longtime dream of competing in the squared circle.

Pettis made his professional boxing debut this past weekend at Jorge Masvidal’s Gamebred Boxing 4. Pettis was featured in the main event where he defeated boxing great Roy Jones Jr. It was s dream come true for Pettis.

“It’s crazy man. Even like the day after I woke up, like did that really just happen, man,” he said on The MMA Hour. “I mean, it’s Roy Jones, bro. Like I grew up watching this guy. You know what he’s done in his career is amazing. So yeah, it’s crazy to even say out loud, it’s insane.

Anthony Pettis is plotting a return to PFL later this year

Pettis wishes to continue his boxing career while at the same time is still a part of the PFL. He will be competing next season in a new sort of capacity but has plans to return to the ring in between.

“I think I’ll have another boxing fight for sure. I think right now I’m gonna I plan on fighting again in MMA for PFL more towards the end of the year. I’m not sure where they’re going to do their pay-per-view card, but I’m gonna see what opportunities pop up. I think right now I’m open to doing both,” he said. “I’m not doing the tournament with PFL, but I am doing the PPV format.”

PFL is looking to make the most out of their big named fighters and put on a series of PPV events. The organization, along with Jake Paul are dubbing this the “Super Fight division” and will be the home for fighters such as Pettis and Kayla Harrison. The plan is for Paul to fight in this format as well, and Pettis wants to be the first to take him on.
