Alexa Grasso will become the first Mexican woman to challenge for a UFC title when she takes on Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 285.

Top-ranked UFC women’s flyweight contender Grasso was last seen in action against Viviane Araujo at UFC Fight Night 212 last October. She turned in an impressive performance and came out on top of the judges’ scorecards by unanimous decision to extend her winning streak to four.

Following the win, Grasso earned a shot at UFC gold as she got booked to face the dominant champion, Shevchenko.

Alexa Grasso is ‘very excited’ to be the first Mexican woman to challenge for a UFC title

In a recent interview, Alexa Grasso expressed excitement at becoming the first Mexican woman to challenge for a UFC title. She wants to create history by performing well and securing gold for her country.

“It’s beautiful,” Grasso told MMA Junkie. “The truth is that it’s so cool. I always put it as a goal to do things well, do things right, and that’s what we’re doing. For me, it’s really important to be able to open the door for all the Mexican women who are coming up behind us. It’s beautiful. I can’t deny that I’m very excited, happy to be a pioneer for my country and do important things along with my partners. I just want to do things well and win that title.”

Grasso’s bout will serve as the co-main event at UFC 285

Alexa Grasso has a tough task ahead of her as she takes on ‘Bullet.’ Shevchenko is currently on a nine-fight win streak and has essentially gone undefeated at 125 pounds under the UFC banner. She’s coming off a close-fought win over Taila Santos at UFC 275 last June.

The 29-year-old’s contest with Shevchenko will serve as the co-main event at UFC 285 this Saturday, Mar. 4 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card will be headlined by the comeback of former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, widely regarded as the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. After a three-year hiatus, Jones will make his move up to the heavyweight division against former interim titleholder Ciryl Gane for the vacant title.
