Fans have been waiting for the chance to get some closure from an always intriguing matchup between two of the lightweight division\u2019s best and most violent fighters. Both men have picked up knockout victories over former WSOF lightweight champion Justin Gaethje since their first encounter, and a win for either man in this rematch could easily put them into title contention. Poirier initially wanted more time to prepare for Alvarez, as \u201cThe Diamond\u201d just recently defeated Gaethje\u00a0at UFC on Fox 29 in April and the two went to war. \u201dThe Diamond\u201d was getting the better of Alvarez during the first round of their first fight. In the second round, the former champion hit Poirier with a knee to the head while Poirier was grounded. Poirier has been calling out Alvarez ever since, and although the former champ seemed reluctant to accept it at first, the two ultimately agreed on the terms of the rematch.
