Report: UFC Looking To Book Zabit Magomedsharipov vs Brian Ortega

Brian Ortega Zabit Magomedsharipov

UFC Eyeing Match Between Top Featherweight Contenders

When Brian Ortega announced he was ready to return to action, fans were all excited. The excitement might be increasing even more, with this potential match-up.

According to a report from FloCombat, the UFC is looking to book “T-City” against another rising star in Zabit Magomedsharipov. Ortega is coming off his first career loss against Max Holloway. In this bout, Ortega was severally outclassed in his aspirations for UFC gold. However, now that he is healthy again he is looking for another shot at the champ. That could come if he beats Zabit.

Zabit is by no means an easy task though. The Dagestan born fighter is undefeated thus far in his UFC career. He is reeling from the biggest win of his career, a decision victory over Jeremy Stephens in March. Zabit had the consensus submission of 2018, with a Suloev Stretch over Brandon Davis. He also had an outstanding performance against Kyle Bochinak. This was a bout in which he broke his hand prior to walking out, yet dominated Bochniak. Zabit is 5-0 in his UFC run, and rides a 13-fight win streak.

Although the fight between these two exciting fighters is not close to official, it would be phenomenal. The speculation is for the bout to take place sometime this summer. It would be by far the biggest test Zabit Magomedsharipov has faced so far. A win would propel him directly to the title. On the other hand, if Brian Ortega can secure a victory over Zabit, he too could be prime for a title shot.
