The 185-pound heavy hitters were rumored to throw down at UFC 230 last November, but bout failed to materialize after Romero said he needs more time to heal from injuries he suffered in a five-round war against current UFC 185-pound champion Robert Whittaker last June. Then he underwent surgery to repair his broken orbital.
The two hulking sluggers were rumored to fight in January however bout fell sideways one more time.
The pair was expected to fight again at last month’s UFC Ft. Lauderdale. Romero told Ariel Helwani that reports are that Costa failed a USADA drug test. The truth about Paulo Costa’s drug test soon revealed as he accepted retroactive six-month USADA suspension which stems from the use of unauthorized IV from his win over former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks at UFC 217. He’s eligible to compete immediately as his suspension is already expired.
Costa last competed back in July where he knocked out Uriah Hall at UFC 226, extending his winning streak to 12.
UFC 241 is headlined by long-awaited UFC heavyweight title bout between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic.
