‘Wonderboy’ Reacts To Razor Thin Decision Loss At UFC Liverpool

Two-time UFC title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson didn’t seem too busted despite an ultra close decision loss via a score of 49-46, 49-46, and 48-47 to hometown favorite Darren Till in the main headliner of (Sun., May 27, 2018) UFC Liverpool from the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.

Immediately after the fighter, Thompson believes he did more than enough to bag the victory, but he didn’t fuss on the situation and said he’ll come back better in his next fight. (Via MMAMania)

”Yeah I thought I edged it out, but it is what it is,” he told Megan Olivi backstage at the Echo Arena. “He’s a big boy. Definitely a big boy, you could feel his weight out there a little bit, but it is what it is … I’m gonna go back and definitely learn from this, but hats off to Darren.

Thompson gave credit to Till for hurting his leg early which has been repaired surgically several times.

“I wanna get my left leg checked out, see how is it’s doing, and then yeah, go back to the drawing board and see where we go from there.”

Afterward, at post-fight press conference reporters asked Wonderboy if Darren Till’s missing weight played into his size and strength but Thompson didn’t take the lure. Thompson also admitted he has no regrets about entering enemy territory, but he was complimentary of Englishman.

”Nah not at all,” he said. “Even though [Till] didn’t make weight, it’s in his hometown. I love being here, I love the fight game. I love to put on a show for everyone who came out, and for the people who helped get me here. This is what I do, baby. This is what I do.”

The major media outlets scores were in favor of Stephen Thompson; something Wonderboy agreed with when asked for his opinions on the verdict.

”I thought I had four of the rounds, could be controversial with three, maybe. But I felt like I hit and moved and his only good shot was in the fourth or fifth round, fifth round. But other than that it was pretty close. I felt comfortable out there. I realized how big he was so I knew I had to stay on my bike and keep moving.”

Thompson is looking to take some time off and have an eye at the upcoming interim title fight between Rafael dos Anjos and Colby Covington for a possible opponent.
