Commission Was “Appalled” At Video Wants, Darren Till Corner To Be Suspended Over Grisly Weight Cut

Darren Till who missed the welterweight mark for his fight against Stephen Thompson at UFC Fight Night 130 event (Sun., May 27, 2018) in Liverpool, England by 3.5 Ilbs— a last-minute family emergency halted his weight-cutting process. Till docked 30-percent of his fight purse, attempting to do all to keep the fight intact. Regardless of all, Till scored the biggest victory of his career defeated Wonderboy via unanimous decision but controversy arose after that hometown factor played roled in his win.

On Thursday a video surfaced which shows a welterweight star Till struggles to shed extra pounds for his main event bout with Wonderboy. The video revealed some harrowing moments, Till was crawled out of the sauna at one point, requesting to stop the cut after telling his coaches that he lost his vision due to dehydration.

Mike Mazzulli, head of the Association of Boxing Commissions, spoke to MMAJunkie about the incident, expressed his disappointment after watching the video and calls to suspend Till’s corner on the brutal weight cut process.

“I was appalled seeing seven people sit there and push this kid to the point where he lost his vision,” Mazzulli said. “They should suspend those corner people that tried to help him cut that kind of weight.”

Weight cutting process – one of the most talked about aspects of the MMA sports has recently come under scrutiny yet again in recent years. The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) passed 10-point plan measures last year that control excessive weight cutting, in most cases ordered fighters to move up in division those who have a history of weight issues.

“They think it’s OK to do what they did to that kid?” Mazzulli said. “They’re going to get him killed. Right now, I am so upset at this whole industry.”

“You’re going to be sitting there with a girlfriend, with parents, who lost their kid to something so stupid, for no apparent reason. What’s going to happen is you’re going to have a mother and a father losing their child over weight-cutting to fight – not in a fight.”

Do you think Darren Till’s coaches should get a suspension who bragged Till for such gruesome weight cut and didn’t step in sooner to stop Liverpudlian from seriously injuring himself?
