Alright, admit it. Kimbo was the equivalent of a kid holding a roman candle directly at your face. He brought MMA to the mainstream, sizzled everyone’s face with blazing-hot fire, then quickly burned out leaving everyone with third-degree burns on their forehead. Even the naysayers looked at Kimbo in awe as he flattened out opponent after opponent — then was dropped in the first round by a last-minute replacement in 2008. The impact of Kimbo getting served a first-round KO led to total collapse of an entire MMA organization, the beloved (well, I loved it) EliteXC. Since then Strkeforce collected all the severed remains of the fighter contracts, Kimbo went to the UFC, was dropped by the UFC, and Strikeforce was acquired by the UFC. The fact still remains, Kimbo was the rise and fall of EliteXC. Now, he’s out of MMA for good. No more of Slice throwing on four-ounce gloves. Its over. Instead, he’s going to attempt to rock the boxing world — a sport already deprived of notable heavyweights. Well, box and party on a bus with a lot of scantily clad women.
