The #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world isn’t Alexander Volkanovski anymore, it’s Jon Jones.
The former UFC Light Heavyweight and current UFC Heavyweight Champion would reclaim his top spot in the pound-for-pound rankings for the first time in years. This would come after he quickly submitted Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 to win another title in his long-awaited heavyweight debut.
Volkanovski On Jones’ Latest Win
Unfortunately for UFC Featherweight Champion Volkanovski, he’d be demoted to #2 in the pound-for-pound rankings after Jones latest hoorah. However, the Aussie doesn’t have much of a problem with ‘Bones’ moving past him.
“It was just that one, but what he did, moving up [a weight class]… at least he moved up and showed that the pound-for-pound comes into play,” Volkanovski said of Jones on ‘Steve-O’s Wild Ride‘. “The body of work that we’ve done in the last few years, obviously, a lot of people are gonna be like, ‘Look at what Alex has done in the last few years,’ and you can get that.”
‘Can I Really Argue That?’
While there’s no denying what Volkanovski has done in recent years, cleaning out contenders in his division and almost taking out lightweight champ Islam Makhachev, ‘The Great’ hasn’t forgotten what Jones has accomplished even though it’s been some time since ‘Bones’ was repeatedly active.
“But at the same time, look at what Jon Jones has done as well. So, can I really argue that? He’s gonna be one of the greatest of all time. So for him to take that is like, ‘Damn it, what do you do?’”
Do you believe Jon Jones should be ranked over Alexander Volkanovski?
