Cain Velasquez thanked his fans for all the support as he left jail.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Velasquez was arrested in Feb. for attempted murder along with a litany of other related charges. He was aiming for Harry Goularte Jr., the man accused of molesting Velasquez’s 4-year-old son, but ended up allegedly striking Paul Bender, stepfather of Goularte Jr. After having three previous attempts denied, Velasquez was finally granted $ 1 million bail yesterday.
Cain Velasquez sends the first message after leaving jail
In a video uploaded to the YouTube channel of KRON-4, Cain Velasquez can be seen leaving the jail early Wednesday after spending eight months in custody.
“Just feel blessed, ready to go home, be with the loved ones, family, and friends and make something positive of this whole situation. Thank you to everybody who had my support. I love all of you. Just always continue to be better as a person, always do good things, and just make something positive of this terrible situation. My family and I, we’re going to do that.”
Velasquez got asked about the first meal he would have after being released, with the popular American-based fast food chain Taco Bell as the frontrunner.
Velasquez was granted $1 million bail with additional terms
Cain Velasquez has been released on terms that include $1 million bail, home detention with GPS monitoring, as well as additional terms; no weapons, TBI/CTE outpatients treatment, counseling, search and seizure conditions, and a protective order to stay a minimum of 300 yards from the alleged victims Harry Goularte, Patricia Goularte, and Paul Bender.
Goularte is scheduled for a pretrial hearing on Monday in San Jose for a charge of lewd acts with a child. Velasquez will have the chance to return home to his family and work with his attorney Mark Geragos for a defense for his upcoming trial. Velasquez is due back in court on Nov. 21 for his trial arraignment.
