UFC Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko is booked for her first fight of 2022.
UFC 275
MMA Fighting was first to report the news that No. 5 ranked flyweight Taila Santos will be the next challenger for Shevchenko on June 11 at UFC 275. No official location has been announced, but Ariel Helwani reported that the promotion is looking to go to Singapore.
Bullet
Shevchenko (22-3) will be looking to defend her flyweight championship a seventh time in June. ‘Bullet’ defended her belt twice in 2021, finishing both of her opponents. First, she finished Jessica Andrade at UFC 261 in the second round; most recently she stopped Lauren Murphy at UFC 266 to cap off her year.
Since she dropped to flyweight in 2018, she has been undefeated and riding an eight-fight win streak. Oh, and she has looked literally unstoppable.
A New Challenger Approaches
Santos (19-1) has looked phenomenal since losing her UFC debut to Mara Romero Borella in 2019. The Brazilian has knocked off four opponents, winning all of her fights dominantly. She picked up her first UFC finish in her last outing when she submitted Joanne Wood in the first round at UFC Fight Night: Vieira vs. Tate.
There is currently only one other fight scheduled for UFC 275. The light heavyweight championship fight, Glover Teixeira vs. Jiri Prochazka was moved from UFC 274 a month prior due to unknown reasons.
