Rogerio Bontorin was scheduled to take on Manel Kape at UFC 275.
Their main card fight this Saturday in Singapore has been called off after Rogerio Bontorin had to be hospitalized from kidney issues. Bontorin suffered the problem during his weight cut, a practice common in the sport. It is generally considered to be a dangerous one as well.
The number eighth-ranked contender at flyweight, Bontorin was looking to get back to winning ways after dropping four in a row including 1 no contest. He lost to Brandon Royval by a split decision in his most recent outing at UFC on ESPN 32 in January.
Former Rizin FF bantamweight champion Manuel Kape recently broke through the UFC rankings last December. He secured the #14 spot in the division following a first-round knockout of Zhalgas Zhumagulov.
Rogerio Bontorin hospitalized from kidney issues, fight with Manel Kape called off
Marcel Dorff of EurosportNL shared the initial report of Bontorin being hospitalized before stepping on the scales for the official weigh-ins.
Just got told Rogerio Bontorin was transported to the hospital earlier this morning. With Bontorin vs. Kape missing on the PPV card visual during the Road to UFC broadcast it looks like the fight is off #UFC275 tomorrow….

Kape’s matchup with Bontorin may get pushed to a later date or could even be called off depending on what the Brazilian’s medical records would suggest.
2 title fights are set to go down at UFC 275
UFC Light Heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira is set to take on the challenger Jiri Prochazka, who’s coming off a brutal knockout of Dominick Reyes last May. This will mark Teixeira’s first title defense after winning the belt against Jan Blachowicz in October 2021.
The featured co-main event of the night is another title fight between UFC Women’s Flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko and Taila Santos. ‘Bullet’ will look to extend her reign of dominance as she goes into the bout on an eight-fight win streak.
Joanna Jędrzejczyk will return to action in a highly anticipated rematch with Weili Zhang in what can be argued to be the people’s main event. Their last bout is considered to be one of the best fights in the history of the UFC and we can expect another firecracker at UFC 275 this weekend.
