Tony Ferguson is working with David Goggins ahead of his 23rd UFC fight.
In June 2019, Ferguson extended his win streak to twelve with a second-round TKO against Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone. Since then, ‘El Cucuy’ has fallen on hard times in the Octagon by losing six consecutive fights, including four inside the distance.
On December 16, the 39-year-old looks to turn things around by defeating Paddy Pimblett on the UFC 296 main card.
To potentially improve his chances of winning, Ferguson has sought the help of David Goggins, a retired Navy SEAL with millions of social media followers supporting his motivational content.
Ferguson announced he was working with Goggins by sharing a workout compilation on Instagram with the caption:
“Thank you CoachGoggins UFC296 Fight Prep ✔️ Have A Great Week Crew & Remember To Break A Sweat MF’as- Champ ♂️ -CSO- # As Coach D.Goggins Says “StayHard” # PaddyCakesGoingDown”
Goggins also shared an Instagram post with Ferguson that featured the following message:
“Day 1 of Hell Week with @tonyfergusonxt consisted of 3+ hours of high-intensity, tempo cardio, over 600 push-ups, tons of chest exercises, stairclimber/assault bike/rowing/elliptical and then repeat. Tony is giving everything he has and is officially back in the lab! Stay hard!”
What other UFC superstar did David Goggins recently work with?
Some MMA fans might have heard of David Goggins due to his work with another UFC superstar. Earlier this year, Jon Jones partnered with Goggins during the UFC 285 fight week. Jones went on to submit Ciryl Gane in round one to claim the vacant heavyweight title.
Goggins knows how to orchestrate a high-level workout. Yet, his primary quality in relation to UFC fighters seems to be keeping them focused and motivated during stressful fight weeks.
The former Navy SEAL did good work with Jones. Meanwhile, it’ll take a lot more to help Tony Ferguson. ‘El Cucuy’ might have lost six consecutive fights, but he’s also faced elite opposition for most of them.
The former UFC interim lightweight champion is now taking on a superstar in Paddy Pimblett. If he loses against Pimblett, it might be time for Ferguson to hang up the gloves.
