Tony Ferguson has seen his DUI charge dismissed after taking a plea deal.

Back in May, Ferguson was arrested in Hollywood, California after he allegedly struck two parked cars with his truck outside of a nightclub. No one was injured in the incident, but “El Cucuy” was facing a DUI charge, which he had previously pleaded not guilty to.

Tony Ferguson Avoids DUI Charge Thanks To Plea Deal

Fast forward to November 27 and a plea deal between the prosecution and the defense has been reached. Judge Shannon K. Cooley approved the plea, per court documents (via MMAJunkie). As a result, Ferguson’s misdemeanor DUI charge has been tossed. In its place is a nolo contendere plea for “wet reckless driving.” Ferguson will serve probation for one year. As part of the probation, “El Cucuy” must refrain from driving if he’s had any amount of alcohol and he must recompense for the damaged cars.

Ferguson is scheduled to return to action on December 16. He will take on Paddy Pimblett on the main card of UFC 296, which will be held inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. “El Cucuy” is hoping to win his first pro MMA bout since June 2019. Ferguson has lost six fights in a row and many within the MMA community seem to be divided on whether or not he should hang up his gloves.

Some have also expressed concern for Ferguson after he linked up with David Goggins for an intense training regiment ahead of UFC 296. Many believe that while the former interim UFC lightweight champion will be in shape, the training might be detrimental for a professional mixed martial arts bout. “El Cucuy” has vowed to prove the doubters wrong and pick up his first win in over four years.

UFC 296 will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between champion Leon Edwards and Colby Covington.
