- Tom Aspinall talked about his potential UFC 300 match with Alex Pereira
- The interim heavyweight champ got nothing but respect for “Poatan”
Tom Aspinall almost got booked against Alex Pereira for UFC 300.
Alex knows when he wants to move to heavyweight
While waiting for what would pan out in the Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic title fight, Aspinall remains ready to take on anybody. Speaking to Michael Bisping in a recent interview, the interim heavyweight champion revealed that he had the chance to face Pereira at UFC 300. However, Aspinall said “Poatan” wasn’t interested in moving up to heavyweight at this point.
“It was [potentially booked], to be honest,” Aspinall said of his fight with Pereira. “We did a bit of flirting with the idea. I was more interested than him, it seemed… Long story short, it turns out, he wants to go to heavyweight, [but] doesn’t want to go to heavyweight yet. So, that’s all we can do.”
Game recognize game
Bisping went on and tried to make Aspinall say something juicy about Pereira. However, Aspinall refused to and just said he recognizes the Brazilian’s talent.
“The guy is a two-weight world champion. You can’t deny his skill level. I’m not gonna talk sh*t about nobody, mate. I have nothing bad to say about Alex,” Aspinall concluded of Pereira.
Last December, Pereira and Aspinall already got linked to a heavyweight showdown. Pereira later insisted that he is focused on the light heavyweight division.

As for Aspinall, the goal is still to become the best heavyweight fighter in the world. He is eager to cement that title by facing and beating Jones but would continue to do his thing if the fight doesn’t happen sooner rather than later.
Aspinall and Jones recently crossed paths and the pair did not fail to delight the fans. However, “Bones” declined Aspinall’s request to have a face-off. Nevertheless, the two colossal heavyweights showed respect for each other.
