New Promotion, Same Old Tito Ortiz
It seems that Tito Ortiz will make his “long awaited” return to mixed martial arts competition against Alberto Del Rio. In order to build hype, the pair had a chance to cut a promo, and boy oh boy did they deliver.
Ortiz retired from MMA for the 22nd time, following his Bellator 170 victory over Chael Sonnen. However, he would return just under two years later, to take on Chuck Liddell in the trilogy fight that nobody ever asked for. This bout took place on the one and only Golden Boy MMA event.
After that, Ortiz promised that he would be moving on to Combates Americas, and continue fighting. After a few weeks, it has finally been determined who his opponent will be upon his debut – former WWE star Alberto Del Rio.
How do we know they will be fighting, you may ask? Well, in typical Tito Ortiz fashion he, along with Del Rio, have promoted this fight with an incredibly cringey exchange in the middle of the cage.
Check out the video of this exchange:
Honestly, I can’t tell what part of this is the funniest. Is it the part where they politely hand each other the mic, so they can go on insulting each other? Maybe it is the part where Combates Americas founder Campbell McLaren talks about how small he is in comparison. Or could it be the part where Tito Ortiz shakes his fist angrily while facing off with Del Rio.
Either way, this is everything that Tito Ortiz embodies in one exchange. It is expected that a WWE star would use similar antics. Therefore, to match Tito up with Del Rio is a recipe for cringe.
