Teddy Atlas and fans aren’t happy that Devin Haney had his hand raised against Vasyl Lomachenko.
On May 20, Haney put his undefeated record and undisputed lightweight status on the line against Lomachenko. After twelve close rounds, the 24-year-old American was awarded a controversial unanimous decision (116-112 and 115-113 x2).
Once the decision was announced, social media exploded with people saying Lomachenko deserved the win. Atlas, a legendary boxing coach, shared his immediate reaction to the decision by saying:
“I can live with the two scores I guess, but not the 116-112. #HaneyLoma”

One of the primary reasons people were confused about scorecards was that Dave Moretti gave Haney the tenth round, which was widely considered a clear round for Lomachenko. Atlas called out Moretti for his questionable decision by saying
“Someone told me that Dave Moretti gave 10th round to Haney, if that’s true he should be brought in front of Commission to explain. #HaneyLoma”

“If Nevada Commission doesn’t call Moretti in and make him explain giving 10th to Haney, then we should start petition to disband them. #HaneyLoma”

Fans Agree with Teddy Atlas that Vasyl Lomachenko was Robbed Against Devin Haney
It doesn’t take much for fans to call a close decision a robbery. With that said, the overwhelming support for Vasyl Lomachenko creates a solid argument for why he deserved to get his hand raised.
People inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena weren’t the only ones who thought Devin Haney lost. Twitter was filled with backlash, including some saying:

“Lol what a joke boxing loses again Loma a career wasted by bad judging could of been a goat”
“In modern boxing, the rules are quite simple. The owner of the party wins unless you KO him. For Haney, Mayweather types, it’s not about winning, but getting to the end of 12th round on feet. A disgrace, but the Rubicon has been crossed. There’s no comeback.”

Devin Haney’s win on Saturday night extended his undefeated record to 30-0. The undisputed lightweight champion continues to solidify his legacy at the young age of 24. Meanwhile, Vasyl Lomachenko now holds a record of 17-3. The Ukrainian-born fighter hopes to get an immediate rematch, but Haney’s team must agree.
