Anyone else remember when Donald Trump, Mark Cuban, Oscar de la Hoya, and Tom Atencio decided to pool their wealth to create Affliction in order to pay guys over a million dollars to lose to Fedor? Well I do, and it was an exciting time in MMA. Fans finally thought there was a clear competitor in the MMA market capable of overtaking UFC. With guys like Fedor, Arlovski, and Barnett on their roster, Affliction appeared to have a much stronger heavyweight division than UFC. Of course that was before it all came crashing down just days before Affliction: Trilogy, then people realized that regardless of the amount of money you have to pour into the sport, no one will ever defeat the UFC.
Perhaps that’s why Donald Trump decided to use a tweet about the UFC to show how much of an altruistic person he really is. I mean without Trump, where would this UFC thing truly be? The dude basically invented the sport.
