Shaq has been around MMA for a while now , the dude tranes. In fact, it’s been over a year since we broke the news that Shaq was going to be a playable character in UFC Undisputed 2010. I remember that night kind of, that was just a few hours before I downed a bottle of Absinthe and decided to burn UFC 2010 in a toy Octagon. Time flies.
Shaq loves his MMA, specifically his UFC. Now that he is done with basketball forever and has joined the sky high percentage of the US population that is unemployed, Diesel has gone job hunting and knocked on Dana White’s doorstep, Dana told ESPN FirstTake:
“Shaq loves [MMA], Shaq’s been training for a long time,” ESPN’s FirstTake. “Actually, a week before he retired, Shaq called me and he wants to be involved in the UFC somehow. He’s always been a good friend to us and I’m sure you’re going to see Shaq around the UFC a lot.
“He said, ‘Listen, I’m gonna have a lot of free time on my hands. I love this sport, I want to get involved. I want to be a part of it.’”
“He’s not just coming in [at the last-minute], he’s been a part of it for a long time,” “Shaq helped us launch the first season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’ He’s always supported us and has always been a good friend.
“So now that he wants to be involved, I’m more than happy to get him.”
If it were 2006 Shaq would already be signed to fight Hong Man Choi. Or Minowaman.
