Previously undefeated welterweight standout Sean Brady will look to bounce back from the first loss of his mixed martial arts career when he steps inside the Octagon with a former interim title challenger at UFC Austin.
Brady suffered his first setback against Belal Muhammad last year, but Brady is ready to put the past behind him and get back to his winning ways. However, that will be much easier said than done when he meets TUF 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum. After a disastrous stretch that saw him drop five out of six, Gastelum delivered a solid performance against Chris Curtis in April. He’ll look to build on that momentum against Brady in The Lone Star State.
Round 1
Gastelum immediately closes the attack and begins to cut off the cage for Brady. Both men clinch up in the middle of the Octagon and Brady manages to push Gastelum to the back of the cage and scores a takedown with ease. Gastelum gives up his back allowing Brady to get his hooks in a minute into the round. Brady locks in the body triangle with plenty of time to work on the ground.
Gastelum works out of the body triangle and scores a reversal allowing him to get back to his feet. Sean Brady lands a left hook that puts Gastelum on the canvas. Brady moves in and once again takes Gastelum’s back. Gastelum works his way back to the fence. Gastelum gets back to his feet but is quickly driven back down to the mat. Brady stays in control through the end of the round.
Round 2
Gastelum comes out a bit more reserved in the second round with both fighters trading calf kicks. Gastelum attempts to throw a blind kick and Brady moves in quick, scoring an easy takedown, putting Gastelum flat on his back in the center of the Octagon. Brady transitions to full mount, but Gastelum works him back into half guard. Gastelum attempts to get back up and gives up his back in the process. Thinking twice about it, Gastelum rolls back to his back, allowing Brady to once again mount him.
Brady rides out the remainder of the round holding Gastelum on the ground, generating boos from the restless Texas crowd.
Round 3
Brady comes out targeting the lead leg of Brady. Gastelum ducks in and lands a solid left, but that only encourages Brady to shoot in quick and put Gastelum on his back with little resistance. Brady slides into the mount and locks in an arm triangle. Gastelum fights out of the arm triangle, but gives up his arm in the process, allowing Brady to lock in an armbar, forcing Gastelum to tap out.
