Rose Namajunas, a newly crowned UFC women’s strawweight champ will look to defend her 115-pound title for the first time against former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 223 on April 7, 2018, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Both fighters met at UFC 217 at Madison Square Garden in New York City last November where Rose Namajunas shocked the world by beating Jedrzejczyk with a first-round knockout to steal the strawweight title.
Dana White, UFC president, confirmed the news at UFC 25th Anniversary Series press conference in Boston on Friday afternoon.
Rose Namajunas named a “Fighter of the Year.” in 2017. Prior to her title win, she submitted Michelle Waterson at UFC on FOX 24 last April.“Thug Rose” has won five of her past six Octagon shows, defeating the likes of Tecia Torres, Angela Hill, and Paige VanZant on her road to the title.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk is one of the best female fighters in MMA ever. Before dropping to Namajunas at UFC 217 late last year in New York. she defended the title five consecutive times. She beat the likes of Jessica Andrade, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, and Claudia Gadelha.
UFC 223 currently set to be headlined for lightweight title bout between interim champion Tony Ferguson and undefeated Russian striker Khabib Nurmagomedov.
