Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler will compete in an “MMA rules match” at WWE’s upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view.
Plenty of former UFC fighters have transitioned to professional wrestling over the years, including Brock Lesnar, Dan Severn, Ken Shamrock, and more. Rousey and Baszler have carried on that tradition, leading to an ongoing storyline that features them squaring off on Saturday, August 5.
Rousey and Bazler started as a tag team that “used their MMA skills” to dominate the competition. Things took a turn for the worst last month after ‘The Queen of Spades’ turned on the former UFC champion, which cost them their WWE tag team titles.
The two fighters-turned-professional-wrestlers will settle their differences with an “MMA rules match” later this week. WWE made the official announcement by saying this on Twitter:

Before transitioning to professional wrestling, Rousey became one of the biggest superstars in MMA history. ‘Rowdy’ established an overall record of 12-2 before ending her fighting career after back-to-back losses against Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes.
Meanwhile, Baszler holds a record of 15-11. After competing on The Ultimate Fighter Season 18, ‘The Queen of Spades’ fought in the UFC twice, losing against Bethe Correia and Amanda Nunes. She last fought in February 2017, suffering a unanimous decision loss against Reina Miura at DEEP JEWELS 15.

Ronda Rousey and Shayna Bazler’s relationship in their WWE storyline has spiraled out of control. The former UFC fighters have expressed their envy for the other since their trust has been ruined. Bazler explained her point of view by saying this during an episode of WWE:
“Believe it or not, I love [pro wrestling] this and you have ruined it for me. I owe you the sobering reality that there is someone here, me, that can finally shut you up.”
Rousey continued to establish herself as a heel by saying this about Baszler during a different episode of WWE:
“I wasn’t given my opportunity here Shayna, I took it. And just like MMA, it took me a fraction of the time you invested before I eclipsed you yet again.”
On August 5, the rivalry between Rousey and Baszler will add another chapter inside Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. It’s unclear what direction the WWE will go, but an “MMA rules match” between two former UFC fighters will be a sight to see at SummerSlam.
