Report: Nicco Montano Vs. Valentina Shevchenko In Works For UFC 228 In September

Nicco Montano And Valentina Shevchenko Finally Targeted For UFC 228

UFC women’s flyweight title fight between Shevchenko and Montano reportedly targeted for UFC 228 Pay-Per-View card in September, as per ESPN’s Ariel Helwani.

UFC is, in fact, targeting UFC 228 on Sept. 8 for the Nicco Montaño vs. Valentina Shevchenko women’s flyweight title fight, sources say. I’ve confirmed one side has already signed her bout agreement.

Montano was long expected her to defend her strap against Shevchenko but has been sidelined due to health struggles for half part of 2018. Montano won the UFC’s inaugural women’s 125-pound title this past December with a five-round beatdown of Roxanne Modafferi at Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale.

Last month, UFC women’s flyweight champion Nicco Montano announced she’d be ready to return to the cage on Sept. 8, seemingly putting an end to long delaying surrounding to the scheduling of her showdown with No. 1 contender Valentina Shevchenko.

Shevchenko scored her flyweight stripes with a debut win over Brazilian prospect Priscila Cachoeira this past February at UFC Fight Night 125. ‘Bullet’ nearly defeated current bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes back at UFC 215 but lost a very narrow split decision.

As of this writing, it’s not clear, if their showdown will serve as the main event.

UFC 228 is set to take place at American Airlines Center in Dallas on Sept. 8
