Alistair Overeem might be returning to kickboxing, but his MMA chapter is not over yet.

Overeem is set to compete against fellow kickboxing legend Badr Hari in a trilogy fight at the GLORY Collision 4 event taking place later this year in October.

It will be his first fight since departing the UFC last year, and a win could see him challenge heavyweight champion, Rico Verhoeven next.

But despite turning 42 last month, “The Reem” is not closing the book on his MMA career just yet.

“Absolutely not [done with MMA],” Overeem said on The MMA Hour. “Might do one more [fight] or maybe two. Might be one. We’ll see what comes about but the calendar’s booked. We’ve got the Badr [Hari fight] and then we’ve got Rico [Verhoeven] after potentially so that will be next year and then we’ll see.”

Alistair Overeem Could Change Mind On Fedor Emelianenko Fight

One potential fan-friendly MMA fight for Overeem could come in the form of Fedor Emelianenko.

The pair are both MMA legends who have never faced each other before.

However, Overeem is not too big a fan of the idea.

“Respect to Fedor,” Overeem said. “He hasn’t fought in a couple of years. I’ve been working on my compassion lately and I think challenging a man who has not fought for several years, I don’t really think that’s a good thing to do.”

Of course, Emelianenko fought more recently than Overeem, but has been more inactive as a whole over the past couple of years.

And while Overeem is not too keen on fighting Emelianenko, things can always change. Especially as Hari was a fight Overeem was not too keen on initially.

“[Fedor Emelianenko is] not a fight I would particularly look for and even the Badr fight, in the beginning not a fight I would look for but the closer it gets, the more it becomes a thing,” Overeem added. “I’m actually getting really enthusiastic about it.

“It could actually also happen with the Fedor fight. Initially, not something I would really look for but I don’t know. The hype kinds of speeds up, people start talking and it’s like this is pretty cool actually. Let’s go.”
