Nick Diaz has one last shot with Showtime Sports

When you think of Nick Diaz you think of marijuana and then you immediately wonder why hasn’t the dude been sponsored by High Times yet? You remember how your friends told you they have a friend that knows a guy that can get bud? Nick Diaz is that guy. In fact, Diaz told the LA Times that smoking weed was ‘part of his plan‘.

“I’m more consistent about everything being a cannabis user,” Diaz said in an interview with The Times last week. “I’m happy to get loaded, hear some good music . . . I remain consistent. And I have an easy way to deal with [the drug tests].

“I can pass a drug test in eight days with herbal cleansers. I drink 10 pounds of water and sweat out 10 pounds of water every day. I’ll be fine.”

The only problem is that his plan failed and he was forced to drop out of Strikeforce’s welterweight title fight. While Scott Coker told the media it was alright and that he’s still a ‘good guy’, the head of Showtime Sports (Ken Hershman) pretty much said Nick Diaz has one more shot with Showtime and if he can’t show up for his next fight, he should go somewhere else:

“If you’re going to be a main event fighter or a fight at this level, you got to be able to show up. And if you can’t and you’re not reliable, then who can count on you and where are you going with your career? So you have to make a commitment. Either you’re going to do it right or not do it all. You only get one or two shots at that and then it’s done…I don’t see how I could spends hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars promoting somebody who’s not going to be able to show up. It’s just bad business…It’s tough when a whole organization and network are relying on you and you don’t have the professional courtesy to show up. To me, it’s inexcusable and not something we want in this organization.”

Nick Diaz will be alright…until the California Athletic Commision tests him again. He’s an avid pothead and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. There is nothing about marijuana that screams ‘performance enhancement’…unless having a strong craving for Chili-Cheese Fritos while watching Aqua Team Hunger Force can somehow improve your brazilian ju-jitsu.
