One MMA fighter didn’t plan on injuring himself just before his bout began, but that’s exactly what happened.
Miguel Grijalva was set to share the cage with Martin Mollinedo. This was supposed to be the Fusion Fighting Championship 64 main event. Grijalva walked in with a record of 8-0 and was hoping to keep his momentum going. Instead, things took an unfortunate turn before the bell even rang.
Miguel Grijalva Suffers Bizarre Injury Before Fight
As Grijalva entered the cage, he leaped up to try to warm up his body. He didn’t appear to do anything out of the ordinary for a fighter entering a bout, but something wasn’t right here. When Grijalva landed on his feet, he looked to be in pain. It didn’t take long before Grijalva went down on the canvas, holding his right knee.
NO SE PUEDE CREER 😨

A look at the Tapology site reveals that the bout is considered to be canceled. Grijalva has seemingly not been hit with the first loss of his pro MMA career since the fight never started.
Injuries are certainly nothing new in the sport of MMA. Last year, former Bellator champion Will Brooks won a bout in 19 seconds after his opponent, Rafael Bastos suffered a brutal leg injury. On a mainstream level, the Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman leg breaks remain buried in the minds of MMA fans.
Still, it’s rare that a fighter suffers an injury doing last-minute warmups inside the cage during an entrance. The warmups are routine for athletes, but Miguel Grijalva was on the receiving end of some bad luck.
It’s a tough situation for Grijalva, who was hoping for a more definitive showing than he had in his last bout against Mauricio Ariel Pare. Grijalva won the fight, but it was via split decision. Time will tell when Grijalva will be healthy enough to return to action.
