Being a retired fighter doesn’t mean you get to work on your garden and tell the kids about how tough it was when you were young, it means you have to work even harder doing the seminar circuit and teaching classes in order to keep paying the bills. Dana White acknowledged the difficulties of retired fighters recently when he mentioned that the UFC would be interested in setting up a pension for retired fighters hopefully in the near future.
One fighter who is not quite ready to press the issue of retiring and claiming a pension is Mirko Cro Cop. Despite publicly stating that he has lost his “hunger, wish and ambition to win”, Cro Cop is to be granted another fight in the UFC according to Dana White. Cro Cop has one fight left on his UFC contract and Dana states that he is willing to honor it, despite thinking that he should have retired after his loss to Brendan Schaub.
Somewhere Gary Laplante is wiping his tears of joy with a Croatian flag.
