Michael Chiesa is putting Alexander Volkanovski at the very top of his all-time greats list.
The upcoming lightweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski is for all the marbles. The winner will reign supreme as the lightweight champion and will be the number one fighter on the UFC pound-for-pound list. Right now Volkanovski sits atop that list but he will solidify his legacy with two belts around his waist.
Fellow fighter and UFC analyst Michael Chiesa thinks that Volkanovski can take top billing over all other fighters past and present if he can pull off the victory over Makhachev at UFC 284 in Perth, Australia.

Michael Chiesa will have Alexander Volkanovski at the top of his GOAT list with a win at UFC 284
Volkanovski will have his hands full with the new lightweight champion Makhachev. He is fresh off his title win and is now looking to defend for the first time. Makhachev has not lost in over ten bouts and with his training coming under former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, he is a tough man to beat. Volkanovski, although smaller thinks he has the key to beating Makhachev, and if he can do so might be the greatest fighter ever, at least in Chiesa’s eyes.
"This is an unarguable case, if he beats Islam, that he's the best fighter we've ever seen."

“I’m excited to see if my prediction holds true, do we see Alexander Volkanovski pull this off, because if he does, there’s unarguably, undoubtedly if he beats Islam Makhachev he is the greatest pound-for-pound fighter of our time,” he said to Sirius XM. “I just think there’s no way you can deny him that respect like to dominate the 145-pound division the way he does and if he goes on beats Islam Makhachev, there’s no way you can not have him as the best guy we’ve ever seen fight inside the Octagon. I usually say arguably, but this is an unarguable case. If he beats Islam that he is the best fighter we’ve ever seen.”
Chiesa is picking Volkanovski to take out Makhachev but is not in great company with that prediction. Many have been counting the featherweight champion out due to his size but Volkanovski himself has been very confident throughout the last few months. He believes he has the skills and the game plan to win and become a two-division champion.
