Alexander Volkanovski sees no trouble in floating between featherweight and lightweight when he wins the belt at UFC 284.
Alexander Volkanovski has been the champion in the UFC featherweight division for three years. During that time he has defended the belt four times and has proven himself to be one of the best to have ever competed at 145 pounds. Now he will be trying to make history by moving up in weight and holding both the 145-pound and 155-pound belts simultaneously. Standing in his way is the newly crowned lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. These two will be battling it out for the lightweight title and the number one pound-for-pound spot when they meet in the main event of UFC 284 on February 11.
Of course, Volkanovski is doing everything in his power to make sure he’s ready to win in Perth. He has been bulking up in order to make up for the size discrepancy between himself and Makhachev. If he is to win the lightweight belt that will not stop him from returning to featherweight and defending there as well. He has mentioned his intentions to do so and is now reiterating that and planning to keep his promise.
Alexander Volkanovski is staying true to his word to defend both championship belts going forward
“I made a promise that I’ll keep both divisions busy and I’m the man of my word. You know I am, I’ve always been a man of my word. I don’t want to hold up any division. I want to be active,” he said. “The hardest thing was bulking and then to be able to go back down, and things like that. But this is the bulking that I needed to do. I feel like I only needed to do it for an Islam fight. I feel like floating between featherweight and lightweight after this can sit at a comfortable weight, then I can make both divisions pretty easily.”
