- Michael Chandler said his fight with Conor McGregor is happening this summer
- “Iron” revealed that he also shot a scene with Jake Gyllenhaal for “Road House”
Michael Chandler is happy to have finally been officially booked for a showdown with Conor McGregor.
It’s official
Speaking to TMZ Sports, “Iron” enthusiastically broke the news and confirmed that at last, the UFC has officially made his bout with McGregor a reality.
“I’ve got the official announcement,” Chandler said. “It’s happening this summer. I can’t tell you the actual date, but it’s happening this summer, yes. Me vs. Conor. Obviously, this has been a year in the making. We did The Ultimate Fighter, he’s been off obviously doing the Road House movie and all his other aspirations and accolades outside of the cage, so here we are, this summer, I’m ready.”
Chandler went on and admitted that they haven’t agreed on a specific date and weight class yet. However, that doesn’t matter as they all know he and “Notorious” have been a perfect matchup for one another.
“Don’t we love to just keep it all up in the air right? We’re talking 85, we’re talking 70, doesn’t seem that seem to be that we’re talking 55 but 85 or 70 and obviously I’ve been vocal… It’s funny the whole like any guy, anytime, any place, any weight, that’s the kind of guy I am right? And I’ve kept that same energy and that same sentiment… It doesn’t matter what the weight class is. All that matters is the confines of competition inside of mixed martial arts under a specific rule set and I’m gonna go out there and take his head off and get my hand raised,” he added.
Chandler shot a scene with Gyllenhaal
Another revelation Chandler made was that he too also took part in McGregor’s movie “Road House.” According to “Iron,” he shot a scene with Jake Gyllenhaal but did not cross paths with the Irish MMA superstar.
“I actually filmed a scene with Gyllenhaal in the movie,” Chandler revealed. “So actually a couple of weeks before my last fight, I flew out of the Dominican Republic. And me and Jake did a fight scene together was basically just one of his highlights. But I wasn’t gonna pass up the opportunity. I did not cross paths with Conor. I think he had just left actually. So yeah, man. Jake’s a friend of mine and I’m excited to watch the movie on Amazon Prime.”
Chandler has long been waiting for the fight with McGregor to become official. If all goes well this time, it appears that he is indeed the first fighter to welcome “Notorious” since 2021.
Chandler is coming off a submission lost to Dustin Porier at UFC 281 and hasn’t fought since November of 2022. Meanwhile, McGregor is finally making his much-awaited UFC return since his near career-ending leg injury at UFC 264.
