  • Michael Bisping is certain Charles Oliveira wouldn’t be able to compete even if he didn’t pull out from UFC 294
  • “The Count” sees a huge risk for Alexander Volkanovski in his rematch with Islam Makhachev

Michael Bisping thinks Charles Oliveira did the right thing by pulling out from UFC 294 after suffering a nasty cut on his eyebrow. He also pointed out why the entire situation is risky for Alexander Volkanovski’s legacy.

Charles can’t compete with a huge cut like that

Speaking on his YouTube channel, “The Count” said there was no way Oliveira could compete with that massive cut on his eyebrow. For Bisping, the fight would just be stopped one way or another due to the injury, and “Do Bronx” was right to just withdraw.

“If it is a bad cut two, three weeks away, two and a half weeks, yeah listen, you can’t compete like that. You can compete with injuries but a huge cut on the eye I mean, that’s going to be bad. It’s going to open up straight away and that’s going to be it or maybe he even gets out there and the UFC pulling from the fight straight away,” Bisping speculated.

There is a huge risk for The Great

On the other hand, Bisping was thrilled by Volkanovski’s guts to take the fight with Islam Makhachev on short notice. However, the former UFC middleweight champion enlightened everybody about “the real risk” of Volkanovski’s decision.

According to Bisping, it’s all or nothing for “The Great” as he will never get the chance to become a two-weight champion if he loses to Makhachev once again.

“Great by name, great by nature. What a man, Alexander Volkanovski is,” Bisping raved. “That is sensational, talk about making the best out of a bad scenario. That’s probably an even more compelling fight.”

“The danger here for Volkanovski is that if he does lose, and one has got to imagine, let’s be honest, that Islam’s going to be a huge favorite not only has he beaten him once, not only is he the bigger guy but this is on two and a half weeks notice,” he added. “Regardless of how professional Volkanovski is because he is, he’s always training, the man’s an athlete, he takes his job very very seriously, still, two and a half weeks, that’s not ideal but the real risk is that if he loses to Islam twice in a row, then he ain’t going to get another shot, that’s the real risk here. That is what’s at stake.”

With Oliveira out, the UFC 294 main event is now a rematch between Volkanovski and Makhachev. The pair first met inside the Octagon at UFC 284 where Makhachev edged Volk via unanimous decision.
