Michael Bisping thinks Jake Paul taking on Nate Diaz is a safe fight.

In the world of “celebrity boxing”, it seems as though Jake Paul is the king. The former Disney Channel star turned YouTuber, and now boxer is a fan favorite. He carved out his niche in the boxing world by fighting former UFC champions and celebrities. He has shown great strides and talent throughout his career so far but met his match in his last outing.

Paul is coming off his first career loss when he fought, professional boxer Tommy Fury. Many felt that Fury was the first real test for Paul after fighting men that are perhaps past their primes. He lost that fight by a split decision. Now he has his next bout all lined up as he takes on another former UFC fighter, Nate Diaz.

Michael Bisping believes that Jake Paul is reverting to his old ways with Nate Diaz fight

Following his first loss, Paul is going back to the bread and butter that made him successful in boxing to begin with. He is now fighting another aging, former MMA fighter. Another man who would fit that mold, Michael Bisping thinks that Paul making an easier choice by fighting Diaz next and not a rematch with Fury or taking on another boxer. He spoke about his feeling about this bout on his YouTube channel.

“The narrative for Jake Paul, he’s gone back to the well, he’s going back to fighting non-boxers who were past their prime who were almost retired because guess what, when he did fight a boxer, he got f–king beat,” he said. “You know what I mean? So his management was like, let’s not do that again. Because if you lose two in a row, certainly in the boxing world, it is game over. So he’s like, Oh, I’ll step away from that.”

The loss to Fury may have changed the way he approached choosing his next bout, wanting to get back in the win column. However, talks between Paul and Diaz have been ongoing since before Diaz left the UFC. This is a big money fight and regardless of records, this fight seemed to be bound to happen.

“Listen, you can keep this pantomime, the circus going whatever you want. And I’m not against people making money,” he said. “You know, good for him. God bless. It’s just all the talk about beating Canelo and being a world champion and ‘I am a crazy guy.’ No, you’re not, you’re a Disney kid and you’re making money through boxing and YouTube and fair play to Nate Diaz. Nate Diaz is 38, a smaller guy, fits the mold. Do you know what I mean? It’s tailor-made.”

This boxing match between Paul and Diaz is set to go down on August 5 live from Dallas, Texas at the American Airlines Center. The bout will be eight rounds and be contested with 10-ounce gloves. Both fighters will have to weigh in at 185 pounds. Diaz fought the majority of his UFC career at 155 or 170 pounds.
