Michael Bisping is looking at the three things he feels will lead to a Jon Jones victory against Ciryl Gane in March.

After two years of teasing his move to the heavyweight division, the time has finally come for Jon Jones. He will be making his divisional debut against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285. Many have Jones favored in his return but there are still lingering questions. He has taken two years to bulk up and pack on enough weight to feel competitive at heavyweight but will that be enough?

Former UFC champion turned analyst, Michael Bisping is taking a look at the keys to victory for Jones in his return bout.

Michael Bisping names three things that will lead Jon Jones to success at UFC 285

Michael Bisping has named three features that he believes will lead Jones to a victory in his long-awaited return. He spoke about them on his YouTube Channel.

1. Fight IQ

Bisping thinks that Jones has a very high fight IQ. He was very complimentary of his game plans in the past and how he carried himself in the cage. He thinks that if Jones can bring the same kind of patience and quick-wittedness that he has had in the past he should find good fortune in his fight.

“Number one is fight IQ. Jon Jones, listen for all his attributes his length, is height, and his wrestling prowess, all the rest of it, the head kick power, when he knocked out DC, all of that is worthless unless the mind is intact. The brain is the most powerful weapon when it comes to fighting. It is so strategic. I mean, you’ve obviously heard the expression that mixed martial arts is human chess, and it really is,” he said. “You gotta have a smart mind. But the fight IQ of Jon Jones is absolutely ridiculous.”

2. Wrestling

Bisping feels that Jones’ wrestling will play a huge role in his fight against Gane. Bisping went on to mention that although Jones was not a wrestling prodigy, he has become one of the best wrestlers in the UFC. Bisping gave a stat that Jones is top four all-time in terms of takedowns in the light heavyweight division.

3. Experience

Bisping is chalking up a lot to time spent in the cage. Yes, this is Jones’ first fight at heavyweight but he has a long line of experience behind him. He was the light heavyweight champion for many years and was almost unstoppable throughout his career. He plans to continue this on at heavyweight.

“Number three, experience,” he said. “Experience can only be earned it cannot be bought. You can only get that by stepping in the Octagon and fighting the best people on the planet and he has done that so much. Compared to Cyril Gane, it’s night and day when it comes to experience.”

This huge heavyweight title bout will be going down on March 4 and only then will we see if Bisping’s assessments are correct.
