Earlier this month, Holloway, 26 was slated to replace the injured Tony Ferguson, against undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov in a hope to become two-division champion, but massive weight cut ultimately burned ‘Blessed’s’ aspiration.
Prior to that, Holloway was scheduled to face Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 but unfortunately forced to pull out from the bout due to a leg injury he suffered in training.
Holloway is coming off consecutive TKO victories over featherweight legend Jose Aldo which extend his current UFC win streak to 12.
Undefeated Brian Ortega who stepped in on short notice against Frankie Edgar, and became the first man ever to finish “The Answer.” in an MMA contest, knocking former UFC lightweight champion out with a vicious right uppercut in the first round. That extended his record to 14-0 (1 NC), 6-0 in the UFC, with six finishes.
UFC 226 is set to take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 7, will headline the super heavyweight fight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier. Meanwhile, Holloway vs. Ortega is expected to co-headline the pay-per-view (PPV) main card following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
