Matt Brown is not too convinced that Alex Pereira is an exceptional striker and believes Jamahal Hill has what it takes to piece the Brazilian champ.

Alex is overrated

Speaking to MMA Fighting, “The Immortal” raised an interesting point by saying the other great aspects of Hill’s arsenal are being overlooked. By contrast, “Poatan” and his striking are being “overhyped.”

Brown added that what most people don’t realize is that Pereira is bigger than usual light heavyweights.

“It’s kind of interesting… We don’t respect the intricacies of his [Hill’s] style because he’s so athletic and he’s got so much power and you know he has these things that we see that are obvious and clear but a lot of the finer things kind of get missed. And I think it’s actually a tough matchup for Pereira because, like, Pereira is also not really technical. People way overhype how technical Alex Pereira is. He’s a gigantic human being, he’s a big 205-er. Like, you ever go stand next to the son of a b***h, he is huge. He’s bigger than most 205-ers that I know, and that goes a long way, and he has enough technique and he has techniques that work for him,” Brown said.

Jamahal could get it done

Brown said that he had seen Pereira in training and he realized that the Brazilian is all power and not really much of a technical striker. On the other hand, “The Immortal” said Hill could match Pereira’s style as “Sweet Dreams” is also somewhat of an aggressive striker with devastating power.

“I actually watched part of his striking instructional on dynamic striking and I was like, ‘Dude, this stuff is ridiculous, he looks terrible doing this and there’s no like, breakdown.’ It’s just like no, hit like this and kick like this. It’s like, dude, you do that, not us. Anyway, the point is, he’s rough around the edges but it works great for him and I think someone like Jamahal Hill can go exploit that because he’s a little rough around the edges too,” Brown assessed.

Heading into UFC 300, Pereira stated that he believes his last opponent, Jiri Prochazka is a better overall fighter than Hill. However, some think that Hill has the ability to finish Pereira early in the fight.

Pereira and Hill will headline UFC 300 which will take place this weekend, April 13 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
