Marvin Vettori doesn’t believe Paulo Costa can make the middleweight limit for his upcoming bout with Luke Rockhold.

Paulo Costa has seen more than his fair share of struggles making weight for his fights. Costa is set to welcome Luke Rockhold in his return to competition after a three-year hiatus. Following an unsuccessful move up to light heavyweight against Jan Blachowicz and losing three of his last four by knockout, Rockhold chose to step away from the sport.

Vettori doesn’t think that Costa will keep his word.

Costa is coming off two consecutive losses and last fought against Vettori in a headlining bout in October 2021. The two were initially matched up for a middleweight contest, the division they’re both former title challengers and ranked contenders.

However, Costa’s issues with his weight cut forced the match to be a catchweight outing first before ultimately settling at the light heavyweight limit of 205 lbs. Vettori went on to win by a unanimous decision.

Talking to MMA Junkie about the UFC allowing Costa to compete at 185 again, Vettori said that he doesn’t think the match would go through at the set weight.

“Luke is a p*ssy, bro. That’s all you guys need to know. Luke is a p*ssy, but I’m gonna give you this: He wanted the fight with Paulo, and Paulo has been b*tching out. I don’t think Paulo can make 185 anymore, but Luke is a b*tch. That’s all you guys need to know.”

When asked about his select choice of words for the former UFC Middleweight champion, Vettori expanded on a training incident he had with Rockhold.

“He’s been talking. Even though I don’t know him, I know him. I saw him one time at the gym, and I said, ‘Let’s spar. You’ve been talking sh*t.’ And he’s like, ‘Oh no, now I’m getting ready,’ this and that. It is what it is. He likes to talk, he’s been on and off, he’s probably broke right now, he wants to make some money.

“He was a champ for one time. I guess we’ve got to give him that, but other than that, I don’t make much out of him. It is what it is, but more than anything he’s a p*ssy.”

Vettori is slated to meet Robert Whittaker on September 3 at UFC’s inaugural event in Paris.
