Li Jingliang has called out a handful of UFC welterweights, including Tony Ferguson.
Jingliang ended 2022 on a sour note after losing to Daniel Rodriguez at UFC 279. The Chinese fighter was initially supposed to fight Ferguson before Khamzat Chimaev forced the fight card to be shuffled. Going into 2023, ‘The Leech’ wants to fight his original opponent to get back on track. He had this to say on Twitter:
Li Jingliang has challenged Tony Ferguson to a fight:
“Hey Tony @TonyFergusonXT I’m bored now it’s too hot in Florida, let’s party. Me and you have unfinished business let’s dance in March, are you ready? Let’s go Champ @DanaWhite @UFC”
‘The Leech’ started 2022 with an impressive win against Muslim Salikhov in July. He was then matched up with ‘El Cucuy,’ which could have been a massive opportunity to capitalize on Ferguson’s notoriety and declining success in the Octagon. Unfortunately, Jingliang suffered a setback, despite becoming a fan favorite.
Li Jingliang follows up with other welterweights he’s interested in fighting
Li Jingliang is ready to take over the UFC welterweight division in 2023. After losing by a split decision at UFC 279, ‘The Leech’ is determined to take out anyone in his path to a title shot. He followed up his Tony Ferguson callout by name-dropping several other 170-pounders on Twitter. Jingliang had this to say:
“Hey all of you are also invited to the party if you want to come @MeansTim @Nikohybridprice @bryan_barberena @alexmoronomma @RdosAnjosMMA @TonyFergusonXT in March, I can make barbecue for y’all @ufc”
Jingliang made his pro-MMA debut in September 2007. The Tacheng native established a record of 8-2 before joining the UFC in 2014. Since then, ‘The Leech’ has made a name for himself with an 11-6 promotional record. The question is, how far can he go in the welterweight division?
‘The Leech’ is the number fifteen ranked UFC welterweight heading in 2023. He has proven to be an exciting fighter, but there are more questions to answer before fighting the elite 170-pounders. Jingliang seems interested in staying active, which could pay dividends if he can string a few wins together.
