UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards is confused with Colby Covington’s love with former US President Donald Trump.
In every interview, Covington speaks highly of Trump and has even said he wants the former US President to wrap the belt around his waist on Saturday night should he defeat Edwards on Saturday night at UFC 296.
“Yeah, that is exactly right. I love Dana, he’s the greatest promoter in the history of any sport, he’s the greatest commissioner. The guy’s a mastermind, (with) what he has been able to do with the sport, but I’m politely and respectfully ask Dana to step aside and let my favorite person and human alive, 45, Mr. Donald Trump put that belt around my waist and then I’m going to put it right back around Donald’s waist because he’s the champion of the people, he’s America’s true champion and he’s the greatest President of All-Time in America,” Covington said to Chisanga Malata.
Not only does Colby Covington want Donald Trump to wrap the belt around his waist, but he also speaks highly of the former US President. He praises Trump whenever he can, which confuses Edwards.
Edwards tells Covington to get a girlfriend
Part of the reason why Leon Edwards is so confused with Colby Covington’s fascination with Donald Trump is due to the fact the former US President has said he likes Jorge Masvidal, who is a rival of Covington.
Along with that, Edwards is confused as to why someone would dedicate their character to another man and hopes Covington will grow up.
“I don’t know, I think it’s weird. That’s what I make of it. I don’t get the fascination with another man, ya know? I don’t get it, I know he used to be the President and stuff but, he’s no longer the President. So, I don’t get like, what’s going on. I don’t know. It’s just weird, why he picked him to be a character of him. I just don’t get it and Trump will just have to hug him around the waist because he’s not getting a belt. Trump has been at his side before, win or loss. So, Trump can’t fight for him. Yeah, he just needs to grow up and go get a girlfriend or something,” Edwards said at UFC 296 media day.
Edwards is currently a slight betting favorite to defeat Covington on Saturday night at UFC 296.
