Colby Covington believes deep down that Leon Edwards is a quitter, which he plans to showcase at UFC 296.

Colby Covington plans to take out “quitter” Leon Edwards and defend the honor of American citizens.

In the UFC 296 main event, Covington will have a third opportunity to claim the undisputed welterweight title. To emerge victorious, ‘Chaos’ must get through the current king, Edwards, who is riding an eleven-fight win streak (one no-contest).

During the UFC 296 media day, Covington was asked how he feels now that fight week has arrived. The 35-year-old responded by voicing his love for the United States of America:

“I feel amazing. It’s great to be back on U.S. soil and get to defend my country and defend the honor of all citizens here in America. It feels great. It could have been in the U.K., but he said an all-time f*ck you to all the U.K. fans and said, ‘No, I don’t want to defend this title in the U.K. I’d rather come to U.S. soil.’ History repeats itself. It’s just going to be another 1776 and that means the British don’t come to America. You come to America, you’re going home empty-handed, junior.”

Colby Covington will be coming off an extended layoff when he steps into the Octagon for the UFC 296 main event. ‘Chaos’ last fought in March 2022, defeating Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision. Yet, Covington isn’t worried as he’s confident Leon Edwards will quit during their five-round battle.

Colby Covington labels Leon Edwards as a quitter

In August 2022, Leon Edwards shocked the world by emerging victorious in a rematch against Kamaru Usman. Edwards was moments away from coming up empty before landing an unpredictable head kick to knock out Usman and become the UFC welterweight champion.

During Colby Covington’s UFC 296 media day, the controversial welterweight title contender had a different narrative about Edwards’ two fights with Usman, leading to him labeling ‘Rocky’ as a quitter:

“It was the first fight with [Kamaru] Usman that I saw that he has that quitter in him. I’m going to bring him to that dark place, and I’m going to bring out the dog in me and the quitter in him. I know he has it deep down inside. Even in the second fight, he had it too and his coach had to wake him up, ‘Leon, Leon, oh, come on, you’re quitting, don’t give up. He’s a mumbling idiot, so Saturday night, I’m going to bring that quitter back out of him.”

On Saturday night, all the trash talk will be worthless as Colby Covington and Leon Edwards go to war. Only time will tell if Covington can silence the doubters or if Edwards will retain his welterweight throne and add another impressive name to his resume.
