- Leon Edwards has verbally agreed to face Conor McGregor after UFC 304
- “Rocky” wants the fight to take place at MSG in New York
Leon Edwards is very open to fighting Conor McGregor at Madison Square Garden after he defends his title against Belal Muhammad at UFC 304.
Leon is down for it
Speaking to The MMA Hour, “Rocky” was asked to comment about McGregor’s plan to dethrone him as the welterweight champion. As expected, the feeling is mutual as Edwards is also thrilled by the idea. In fact, the reigning welterweight champ even proposed to make it happen at MSG in New York.
“That would be good,” Edwards said of a title fight with McGregor. “Yeah, 100 percent, why not? I feel like let’s give him an opportunity to become a three-division world champion. It gives me an opportunity to take out a guy like Conor McGregor. New York, that would be perfect. That’s the fight. He’s got to take out Michael [Chandler], I take out ‘You Don’t Remember His Name,’ and we’ll go from there (laughs). We’ll go to New York, MSG… That’s the fight, I feel… It should happen.”

Everything is still to be determined
While the Edwards vs. McGregor title fight seems interesting, it might not come to reality if things go south in the upcoming UFC events.
As it stands, “Notorious” would need to redeem himself first in his comeback fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 303. On the other hand, “Rocky” will put his belt on the line against Muhammad at UFC 304. That said, everything could change if Edwards and McGregor both end up losing.
McGregor is coming off a three-year hiatus due to his near-career ending leg injury. Edwards, meanwhile, will try and defend his welterweight strap for the third time.
