Khamzat Chimaev still wants to wreak havoc on not one but two divisions.
Chimaev’s Plans
The undefeated top contender might be one win away from a UFC welterweight title shot, but that won’t stop Chimaev from seeking a fight in a weight class above. Chimaev doesn’t just want any fight, he targets the newly crowned champ Alex Pereira, following his TKO win over the long-reigning king Israel Adesanya.
That’s not all, folks. ‘Borz’ boasts after he beats the kickboxer at UFC 283, he’d be happy to collide with the likes of Colby Covington as well.
“I’m ready for Pereira in Brazil [in January].” Chimaev told ESPN. “Directly after that, March, if Colby wanna fight. So, I think I might fight for the title 84 (kgs) and then go down to 77 (kgs) and fight Colby as well.
“Who’s fighting in Brazil?” Chimaev said of the current UFC 283 card. “I don’t understand. It’s not that good of an event so if they let us fight, it will be a big event.”
‘We Will See’
Chimaev said he’s been trying to get in contact with the UFC brass, Dana White and Sean Shelby, to make the two fights a reality. However, it looks like they’re only interested in making Covington vs. Chimaev at the moment.
“[Shelby] said, ‘OK brother, we go first Colby,’ so maybe Colby. For me it doesn’t matter. Colby is just not talking about that fight and about me. Colby when he fights somebody, he just doesn’t stop talking… so we will see.”
Colby Covington hasn’t fought for quite some time, as his last win was over Jorge Masvidal back in March. Masvidal would collide with ‘Chaos’ again, allegedly attacking him at a restaurant weeks later. Covington has been in the wind since, not having a fight lined up for a while now because of pending legal issues with ‘Gamebred’.
