Khabib Wants To Fight Tony Ferguson, Then Retires From UFC, Declined $15 Million For Mcgregor Rematch

If Khabib Nurmagomeov’s Remains In The UFC, Then In April Or May There’ll Be A Battle With Tony Ferguson

Since undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted Conor Mcgregor via fourth-round submission at UFC 229, news of rematch with Mcgregor is making rounds but ‘Eagle’ has some other plans as he wants to fight former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson next to cement himself the greatest of all time.

That’s according to Khabib’s uncle, Alex Nurmagomedov, who told Russian Sport-Express, that ‘Eagle’ was offered $15 million for Mcgregor rematch which he eventually turned it down, as he has his sights set on Tony Ferguson fight.

“From the start, they offered him 15 million if he agrees,” Alex Nurmagomedov told Sport Express (via MMAJunkie). “But Khabib said no. Let Conor stand in line, let him fight with others. Khabib wants to fight Ferguson, and then finish his career.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov already threatens to leave UFC, if promotion released his teammate and training partner featherweight Zubaira Tukhugov for his role in the UFC 229 post-fight melee. That drew some offers from Bellator and boxing organizations, but Khabib is staying put.

It was clear that the bout wasn’t really a close one and Khabib Nurmagomedov remained dominant over McGregor on the canvas most of the fight, then eventually made him tap out in fourth round via submission than immediately after a melee broke out.

Mcgregor vs. Khabib was the biggest fight in the history of UFC and broke all previous UFC PPV sales record of 1.6 million for McGregor’s rematch with Nate Diaz at UFC 202 back in 2016 to 2.4 million buys. It’s understandable that despite what were the results, but a rematch could be more lucrative one for everyone.

Before this even come to fruition, Mcgregor, Khabib and Nevada State Athletic Commission has to sit down and deal the issues for their involvement in the post-fight brawl at UFC 229.

Khabib’s uncle said Dagestani native wants to settle his business with Ferguson next.

“We planned (a Ferguson fight), but it can pass only if Khabib remains in the UFC,” Alex Nurmagomedov told Sport Express. “Many organizations with large prize funds offered him to sign a contract: Bellator, Akhmat, Fight Night. If Khabib remains in the UFC, then in April or May there will be a battle with Ferguson.

“For $2 million (from Bellator), Khabib will not fight. Now he is ready to go into battle for no less than $5 million. In Bellator we were told to name our amount and they are ready to sign a contract. If Khabib leaves UFC, another eight people can leave with him. I can not list them all, but they are powerful, good fighters. I will not yet call their names. The UFC asked Khabib not to hurry, because they have not yet made a final decision.”

Ferguson who’s is on 11 fight winning streak and most recently coming off a win over Anthony Pettis at UFC 229.
