The Many Faceoffs of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson

Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson may be the single most cursed fight in all of MMA. This is a history of this failed matchup.

Khabib and Tony have been scheduled to face each other on four separate occasions. Despite the fact that they have yet to make it to the Octagon to fight each other, they have stood face to face on many occasions. Moreover they have even gotten to the point of weigh ins, but never to the fight itself.

It all began with The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale in 2015, where Khabib was forced out due to a rib injury six weeks out from the fight. The fight was then rescheduled four four months later, at UFC on Fox 19. However this time Tony was forced to withdraw because of fluid in his lungs.

Around a year later, the pair would be matched up again, this time at UFC 209. This time all seemed well, like we would get to finally see the fight. This time, on the day of the weigh ins, Khabib would be hospitalized due to complications from his weight cut.

Perhaps the most infamous time Khabib and Tony were going to fight, was at UFC 223, in 2018. In what would turn out to be one of the craziest events in UFC history, Tony injured his knee tripping over wires during a media event. Additionally this was the same event that Conor McGregor’s dolly incident.

The craziest part about these fights not happening between Tony and Khabib, is that the two have yet to lose in between these matchups. Khabib is undefeated and has moved on to become UFC Lightweight champ. On the other hand, Tony won an interim title, which was stripped while he was injured. Despite that, he is still on a legendary 12 fight winning streak.

Perhaps now is finally the time to see Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson.
