Kamaru Usman Wants Colby Covington Instead Of Title Shot Next!

Kamaru Usman Has A Different Idea: “I’ve Got To Bless Colby Covington With My Hands!”

Kamaru Usman (14-1 MMA, 9-0 UFC) showed his real power at the main event of TUF 28 last Friday, where he defeated Rafael dos Anjos via unanimous decision. “The Nigerian Nightmare” controlled most of the match and deserved a victory.

Dana White said in the post-fight show that he’d wish to see Usman challenging Tyron Woodley for the UFC Welterweight belt, but it appears Kamaru wants something else.

Kamaru Usman revealed during his recent interview with TMZ, that UFC gave him an offer for a match against Welterweight contender, Colby Covington, in January 2019. He accepted it. (h/t MMAFighting)

“I’m gonna go out there and knock out Colby Covington,” Usman said.” That right now is the fight. The UFC just called and they offered us the fight. They said Colby Covington in January and you know what I’m gonna do. Of course, I accepted. For the fifth time, I’ve accepted the fight. Right now we’re just waiting on him.”

But there is one big problem – Colby Covington is already presumed for a next Welterweight title shot. “Chaos” is a world-class trash-talker who attacks fighters inside and outside of the octagon. His social media skills helped him to secure an Interim Welterweight title shot at UFC 225 versus Rafael dos Anjos on June 9, 2018. Interestingly, Covington won using literally the same tactics like Kamaru Usman.

Covington was stripped of the title quickly. “Chaos” was unable to make a quick title unification bout versus “The Chosen One” due to nasal surgery.

Tyron Woodley also clearly said on November 26th that he’d like to fight Colby Covington next. It means the famous trash-talker has a good excuse to ignore Usman’s callout.

It looks like Kamaru Usman is irritated by Covington’s behavior. He says “Chaos” is the guy who makes his blood boil. Usman feels he “can’t retire until he blesses Colby Covington with his hands”.

“There comes a time where what we do in our careers where we get that one guy, that guy that just makes your blood boil, that really pulls the real savage out of you,” Usman said. “I have to touch him. I have to. I’ve got to bless this dude with my hands. I’ve got to bless him. It’ll be a little sour taste in my mouth to win the belt, win multiple times, and then retire knowing I didn’t put my hands on this dude.”

Also, Tyron Woodley is far from a safe zone. Usman plans to go for a Welterweight title when he teaches Covington a lesson.

“I’m gonna go out there and do Tyron’s dirty work because I understand Tyron don’t want to have to fight both of us,” Usman concluded. “He wants to sit back, keep getting them big checks that y’all get over there at TMZ, so it is what it is. Don’t worry T, I’m gonna go out there and do the dirty work and after that, we gonna have to talk.”

Would you like to see Kamaru Usman Vs Colby Covington next? These two have a very similar fighting style! As well as you know, Woodley still recovers from hand injury. Maybe that is the reason Usman challenged Colby?
