- Josh Thomson weighed in on the reason why Kayla Harrison signed with the UFC
- “The Punk” suspects that Kayla will call Amanda Nunes out if she beats Holly Holm at UFC 300
Josh Thomson is confident about his take on why Kayla Harrison joined the UFC and he believes it’s all about Amanda Nunes.
Kayla wants Amanda
Speaking on his Weighing In podcast with John McCarthy, “The Punk” thoroughly explained in detail what he suspects the reason why Harrison preferred to be in the UFC than face Cris Cyborg at the PFL.
According to Thomson, Harrison believes that beating Holly Holm at UFC 300 would be her ticket to a super fight with Nunes.
“It’s hard for me to believe that she got paid more than she was going to get paid at the PFL… So I do believe that she will get paid more if, and I think this the only reason why she left, is that Amanda Nunes is coming back,” Thomson said.
“Why would she fight Cris Cyborg and I’m not knocking Cris at all, when I can fight the person who beat Cris Cyborg and say that I am the best female that’s walked the face of the earth,” he pointed out.
“I believe that she would have never have left if the opportunity to fight Amanda Nunes wasn’t there because she can put all the naysayers to rest if she beats Holly Holm and then she says I came to fight Amanda because Amanda’s saying that she’s going to come back or there was talk that Amanda was going to come back and that’s the deal that I signed for. I signed to fight Amanda Nunes who beat hris Cyborg, it all makes sense,” he concluded.
Kayla’s weight cut is the issue
While Thomson makes a good point in his speculation, the murmurs around the UFC at the moment is Harrison’s weight-cutting. Some are questioning the former PFL champ’s ability to make the 135-pound limit at bantamweight as she naturally fought at 155.
It’s also what current women’s bantamweight champion Raquel Pennington thinks about Harrison’s situation. Pennington also thinks Harrison would be exposed in her UFC debut.
As for Nunes, she previously teased about a possible UFC return but nothing is concrete yet at this point.
