- Josh Thomson said Alex Pereira apparently managed to include a UFC 301 bout in his UFC 300 contract
- “Poatan” shed light on Thomson’s claim in a video
Josh Thomson claims Alex Pereira included UFC 301 in his UFC 300 contract.
Alex had it in black and white
Speaking on his Weighing In podcast with John McCarthy, “The Punk” revealed that he “heard” from some sources that “Poatan” had worked out a deal in which he could compete at UFC 301, provided that he doesn’t get hurt at UFC 300.
“I also heard that if what’s-his-name gets out of the [UFC] 300, he wants to be on that card, Alex Pereira,” Thomson said. “Apparently that was part of his contract negotiation. If he gets the win, and he comes out healthy, that he’s allowed to fight on that card. Yeah, that was part of I guess apparently his agreement to fighting on 300. So, we’ll see.”
Alex is sticking to the plan
Weeks after revealing his desire to do a quick turnaround and compete at UFC 301 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, “Poatan” insists that not one bit has changed in his plans. In a recent video, the reigning light heavyweight champion let everybody know about it.
“If everything works out right? First, I have to win this fight [against Hill],” Pereira said. “I work with the reality. I can lose, I can win, either can happen. But I’m doing everything I can to leave with a victory. If everything works out, I can do it. I can say to you guys, every fight I’ve done in the UFC, I had the conditions, the ability, to do it.”
“If I had to fight with any other opponent, I would do the training that I’ve been doing,” Pereira continued. “I’m doing a lot of grappling training. A lot of people think I don’t, because I don’t post a lot. But I’m training well and prioritizing that part. So if it were another opponent, I’d be doing the same camp I’m doing right now. So that won’t be a problem.”

Pereira’s plan to be included in UFC 301 has sparked much anticipation and speculation within the MMA community as Brazilian fans eagerly wait for an official announcement. UFC 301 will take place on May 4 at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro. Needless to say, “Poatan” doesn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to defend his light heavyweight title in front of his compatriots.
Brazilian UFC legend Jose Aldo would make his return on the said event as he takes on Jonathan Martinez.
